Perl 6
Perl 5 has been in rather widespread use for several years now. Perl 6 is the next major version, and there are some huge changes in store. Maybe not that huge. Perl 6 will still be Perl, after all. Nevertheless, there is a lot of scary new stuff for the veterans to think about. I use this page as a resource for tracking the major ideas and stuff. It serves no other purpose whatsoever, but you might find it useful as well.
- Perl 6 Design Philosophy
- ''Topics'' in Perl 6
- Perl 6 Mailing List Summaries
- Parrot (the Perl 6 virtual machine)
- In the Apocalypses, Larry Wall covers the gory details of Perl 6. Each Apocalypse directly corresponds to a chapter in Programming Perl.
- Each Exegesis is written (primarily by Dr. Damian Conway) to make sense of the corresponding Apocalypse.
- As the Apocalypses get bigger, it takes more work to hold it all in your head. The Synopses have been written to make it easier to step through this stuff, sort of a companion piece to the Exegesis.
In putting this list together, I noticed the ever-important third author in the triumvirate of cool Perl 6 stuff. My apologies to Allison Randal, but I guess you haven't been getting the same publicity as the other two. I'm looking forward to the Perl 6 Essentials book.
